A new technique for efficient simulation of microstrip circuits etched in layered media

The Method of Moments (MoM) is the most widely used algorithm for the electromagnetic analysis of printed microwave circuits and antennas and exploits integral equations formulated through the use of the Dyadic Green's Functions (DGF's) for calculating the equivalent currents. When the circuit is located in a stratified media the corresponding spatial domain Green's function can be expressed by Sommerfeld Integrals (SI's) that are very time-consuming to evaluate. Alternatively, these integrals can be cast in a closed form by using the Discrete Complex Image Method (DCIM) to improve the computational efficiency. In this work we introduce a new approach, referred to herein as the Equivalent Medium Approach (EMA) for simulating microstrip circuits etched in layered media that provides an alternative to the DCIM.
