Synthesis of fuzzy control systems with desired performance

Fuzzy controllers can be derived from fuzzy models of the process to be controlled, by means of a systematic synthesis approach. The resulting fuzzy control systems have the guaranteed stability and the desired performance. As a result, this approach is superior to other fuzzy controller synthesis techniques where achieving the desired control performances is performed by trial-and-errors. First, it is shown that linear matrix inequality methods allow the design of fuzzy state-feedback controllers for stabilizing a system described by the linear Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. Next, the design requirements and desired performances of the control systems should be considered in addition to stability.
