Current densities induced in a charged human body approaching to a vehicle due to an ESD event

The FDTD method is used to calculate current densities induced in a charged human body approaching to a vehicle due to an ESD event in the frequency range from 10 Hz to 50 MHz. Obtained maximum current densities induced in the human body at frequencies of 10 kHz~50 MHz are much higher than the threshold current density of 1 μA/cm
²
for the steady-state current flow cases, which may cause biological effects that are harmful to health. It is also found that the ESD current induced in the heart is smaller than the threshold current required to produce ventricular fibrillation in humans for frequencies below 1 MHz.
