A perspective on TINA service security architecture

TINA-C (Telecommunication Information Network Architecture Consortium) is a body of leading network operators and manufacturers world-wide, working toward an integrated information network architecture based on distributed, object-oriented technology. The distributed and open nature of TINA mandates service security as the inseparable part of TINA services. An architectural solution, called the 'service transaction', is proposed. Agreed security interests between the user and the provider are specified by the 'security management context', which provides a consistent quality of protection (QoP) over the multi-provider service domains. The key components of the TINA service security architecture are explained. The Common Security Service Object (CSSO) is explained, which provides an application-specific extension of the TINA security service.
