Plug-in electric vehicle impact on Nashville Electric Service distribution system planning

This paper describes Nashville Electric Service's approach to forecasting and planning for plug-in electric vehicle penetration in our service area. NES is a publicly owned electric utility serving approximately 360,000 electric customers in Davidson, Robertson, Sumner, Wilson, Rutherford, Williamson, and Cheatham Counties of Tennessee. It is the 11

largest public electric utility in the United States based on customers served, the 12

largest based on electric revenues, and the 17
^th
largest based on megawatt-hour sales. The NES distribution system covers 700 square miles of service territory through more than 5700 pole line miles. In fiscal year 2008, NES delivered over 12,800 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity to commercial and residential customers, in addition to serving the public lighting needs in the area.
