Preparing for the worst

It is possible to emerge from a man-made or natural disaster in relatively good shape if you prepare for it ahead of time, and if you make those preparations part of your routine day-to-day operations. This strategy is particularly crucial for computing and data storage operations. The author discusses a five-point plan which, if put into effect before a natural or man-made disaster occurs, will enable you to survive one with staff, computers, and data pretty much intact. The plan covers protecting equipment and and saving records, preventing power and communication cable damage, keeping a good stock of consumable items (water and fuel), knowledge of the building, and preventing injuries to people.
