Electronic displays, principally Liquid Crystal Displays, have an important role in linking electronic devices with human society, and are expected to play an increasingly more important role in the multimedia society of tomorrow. But, the LCD market, LCD technology and the surrounding international situation are evolving dynamically. Will Japan be able to maintain its strong position? Generally speaking, it can hardly be expected. But what prospects can be envisioned? The answer to the question depends on whether Japan will be able to maintain the technological leadership in the true sense of term.
