On the Velocity of a Domain Wall in an Applied Magnetic Field

A numerical study is made of a moving magnetic domain wall. It is assumed that the wall moves with a uniform velocity V under the influence of an applied magnetic field of magnitude H

. This leads to a boundary value problem on a doubly infinite line. By using a symmetry in the problem, the inherent difficulty of a two-dimensional search on a doubly infinite line is bypassed. For each V the problem is solved as a sequence of initial value problems involving a one-dimensional search. A limiting velocity is determined by means of an eigenvalue analysis.
