Analytic model and experimental study of the UNM educational reltron's pulsed power system

The UNM educational reltron is driven by a 2 stage bipolar 396 J Marx generator capable of generating a maximum of 120 kV. The output voltage pulse has a rise time of less than 0.25 ¿s and a variable pulse width of 1-4 ¿s. The pulse width is controlled by a crowbar switch that shunts current away from the load. An analytic model of the Marx generator's charging and discharging is developed. The output current of the Marx generator model is compared with the beam current simulated using the MAGIC particle-in-cell code.
