Optimal control of building and HVAC systems

An optimal control strategy is compared with a conventional strategy to demonstrate the capability of optimal control to maintain comfort while reducing the utility cost for a two-zone building and HVAC system. The optimal control strategy yields a reduction in the utility cost of 11 percent for the conditions considered. A near-optimal control strategy that requires less implementation effort is also discussed.
