Channel assignment techniques for in-building PCS microsystems

Channel assignment schemes are evaluated that are suitable for the large scale uncoordinated deployment of in-building PCS microsystems in a dense urban area. Three fully distributed dynamic channel assignment strategies are evaluated by computer simulation in terms of their call blocking probabilities. Baseline comparisons are made to a fixed channel assignment scheme that assigns channels with complete knowledge of the interference neighbourhoods and traffic loading of the microcells. The best identified DCA scheme uses a weighted channel ordering with channel rearrangements. This is followed by a DCA scheme that use simple channel orderings with channel rearrangements and, finally, by a random DCA scheme.
