Mathematical models for the analysis of dynamic channel selection for indoor mobile wireless communication systems

Dynamic channel selection (DCS) is an algorithm for flexible mobile cellular radio resource sharing. It has been implemented in the Digital European Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) standard. Models are developed to calculate probabilities of channel availability, desired carrier power and the carrier to interference ratio for a constant traffic load. These results can be used to compute the call set-up blocking probability. The models of this study are based on a decentralized DCS according to the DECT standard specifications. The channel availability model shows that resource blocking is sensitive to the implementation of the portable sets; also that this type of DCS can be as good as fixed channel allocation with respect to resource blocking.
