Effects of Doping ${\rm Lu}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ Into ${\rm Gd}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ on Phase Transformation and Luminescence

The effects of doping ${\rm Lu}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ into ${\rm Gd}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ on the phase transformation and luminescent properties were investigated. It was found that by doping ${\rm Lu}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$, the phase transformation in ${\rm Gd}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ is prevented up to 1600$^{\circ}{\rm C}$ at least. It is helpful to dope ${\rm Lu}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ into ${\rm Gd}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ for sintering the cubic ${\rm Gd}_{2}{\rm O}_{3}$ ceramics. Europium-doped lutetium gadolinium sesquioxide solid solutions, $({\rm Lu},{\rm Gd})_{2}{\rm O}_{3}:{\rm Eu}$, with intensive luminescence intensity, could be developed into a potential ceramic scintillator candidate for X-ray detection.
