Causality condition for time domain analysis of pulse distortion in lossy dispersive interconnects

This paper presents the causality condition for the time domain analysis of the pulse distortion in interconnects on GaAs substrates due to dispersion and losses. The causality condition is utilized to derive the response function for the complex propagation constant. The transient response to the input pulse is obtained by solving a first-order partial-differential equation with the convoluted coefficient. The solution procedure is implemented in a recursive manner by using the exponential approximation. As an example, the results for a single microstrip interconnect are demonstrated.
