Low availability system design for satellite communications

The effects of propagation anomalies on some of the parameters are considered and some results of extensive attenuation measurements are given. As an example, a Ka-band VSAT system that exploits suitable impairment countermeasure is shown. The performance of the proposed communication system is evaluated using the experimental data and a comparison with the results obtained using ITU-R prediction methods is presented, as well.
