Water absorption in composite dielectrics

Composite insulation, comprising more than one component part, has been in service for many years, offering many advantages including lightness, good mechanical properties and pollution resistance. However, despite these advantages, many composite dielectrics have been found to absorb water both during the manufacturing process and during normal service, resulting in a reduction in their electric strength. This paper reports the results of a study into the role of ions in water permeation.
