The influence of chemical structure on the dielectric behaviour of polypropylene

The polar functional groups induced in polypropylene by radio-oxidation have been shown to affect the dielectric response of the material in terms of loss. As expected, the introduction of a stabiliser reduces the concentration of gamma-induced oxidation products for a given radiation dose and this is reflected in a concomitant reduction in the magnitude of the resulting electrical signal.
