Joint Modeling And Simulation System (J-MASS) personal computer station (JPC-station)

The concept and design approach for a J-MASS Personal Computer Station (JPC-Station) was developed on a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program with the Aeronautical Systems Center, Development Planning Directorate, J-MASS Program Office (ASC/XRJ). This paper describes the concept and top-level design for implementing the J-MASS Develop and Assemble modes on a PC to provide a dedicated J-MASS development station. The concept implements a representation of the J-MASS file structure in an object-oriented (OO) database to form a PC-based J-MASS OO Modeling Library (ML). The concept includes an interface between the OO ML and the J-MASS UNIX file-based ML with development options to include the J-MASS configure mode. The JPC-Station will be developed through a combination of new software development; porting existing J-MASS software to the PC; integration of a commercial meta-diagramming tool; and use of a commercial OO data base management system. Once fully implemented, the JPC-Station can be used to develop models in the J-MASS architecture; configure simulations on the PC; and export the files to the UNIX workstation for execution. The JPC-Station also provides a research and development testbed for design and test of new J-MASS tools, concepts, and architecture evolution to meet Department of Defense requirements. A prototype of the JPC-Station was implemented using Visual C++ in a Windows NT environment. The phase II program includes an option to implement a fully capable J-MASS PC station that incorporates a Legacy Model Reengineering Tool Set LMRTS. The LMRTS will provide a set of tools to aid in reengineering legacy models into the J-MASS architecture. This will provide a unique capability to accelerate the transition to the J-MASS architecture by all three services.
