Universal radar moving target transponder

URMTT, the universal radar moving target transponder, has been developed for remote, over-the-air or local, hard-wired exercising of all currently deployed US Navy shipboard radars including CW Doppler, pulsed Doppler, phase-encoded, chirped, and waveform-agile radars; a number of air platform radars can also be exercised by URMTT. The only intrinsic limitations of the current version of URMTT are that the instantaneous bandwidth of the radar spectrum cannot exceed approximately 45 MHz, and the frequency agile bandwidth cannot exceed 800 MHz. Radar signal data is captured and reproduced with 8-bit resolution. Target range rates (with Doppler) in excess of 10/sup 5/ m/s with a resolution of 0.174 m/sec; range delays of 5.1 msec, milliseconds (more than 7.80/sup /spl times//10/sup 5/ m); and essentially unlimited target acceleration can be generated. Amplitude variations including R/sup -4/ for constant RCS (radar cross section), multipath, scintillation, glint and helicopter blade flash are all available at operator-specified time scales of microseconds to minutes.
