Practical issues in the application of genetic algorithms to optimal design problems in electromagnetics

Genetic algorithms (GAs) have been successfully applied to the design optimization of electromagnetic devices. Practical issues relating to the implementation of the technique are examined. The possibility of a premature convergence in some applications is studied. Recommendations and guidelines to take these practical implementation issues into consideration are explained through application examples.
