Radar magnetrons: international and Brazilian Air-Force scenarios

Microwave high power technology would not be conceivable without the early development of the radar magnetron by H.A.H. Boot, J.T. Randall, and their associates in England in late 1939. It is pointed out that with an appropriate substitution of the conventional fixed frequency or mechanically tuned strapped anode structures for the coaxial anode structure coupled with a sophisticated tuning mechanism one can upgrade the dated Brazilian Air-Force radar systems. This retrofitting approach can be installed in the existing airborne and ground-based radar. It represents a low percentage of the total radar cost, about 10-15% of the original system cost. Therefore, an economical and attractive program can be accomplished by the civil and military government sectors working together towards common objectives.
