Multiscale estimation of the ionospheric effect from single frequency GPS receiver data

In this paper, a multiscale dynamic model for the ionospheric effect is formulated for single-frequency receivers, and a multiscale estimation algorithm is used to obtain an optimal estimate of the ionospheric effect. Multiscale stochastic modeling is based on scale-recursive dynamics which is defined on a coarse-to-fine scale dyadic tree. Such an approach may have some advantages for the problem at hand. It not only leads to extremely efficient, statistically optimal signal processing algorithms but also admits a much wider class of stochastic processes when compared to time domain stochastic models. Numerical results are used to demonstrate the suitability of the multiscale method for the estimation of the ionospheric effect.
