Electrode and media impedance for detection and characterization of microorganisms

A so-called Impedance Splitting Method is discussed which allows a separation of the impedance Z/sub M/ of the culture medium and the impedance Z/sub E/ of the electrode system. Z/sub E/ shows high sensitivity and yields good results for the initial microorganism concentration also for media of high salt content (e.g. selective media). In many other cases the combined use of Z/sub M/ and Z/sub E/ offers a more specific detection of microorganisms.
