Modal analysis of multi-quantum-well waveguides using the vector finite element method

This paper presents the computer modelling and modal analysis of a complicated multi-quantum-well waveguide structure with active gain by using the modified vector finite element formulation. With the modified formulation, solving the resultant eigensystem by a subspace iteration sparse solver is made easier and faster. From the computing results, some interesting phenomena about the relations of field profiles to material parameters and waveguide structures are revealed and discussed.
