A joint space-time estimation algorithm for wideband signals with high resolution capabilities

The measurement of the directions of arrival using an antennas array is limited by the number of detected sources. In a linear network of M antennas, the maximum number of not correlated signals that can be considered is (M-1), and (2M/3) in case of correlated signals. Thus, the number of antennas must be higher than the number of signals. To overcome this difficulty, we present in this paper, a joint estimation (angle-delay) method based on the MUSIC algorithm in wideband conditions. The phase difference between the signals collected by the antennas makes it possible to calculate the DOA's, and the phase difference between the consecutive frequencies of the complex envelope in each antenna allows estimating the delays. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the method and that we can estimate a number of sources higher than the number of elements in the array.
