Modelling AC/DC systems for the analysis of AC/DC interactions

It is well documented that any given harmonic (or any given oscillation) on the AC side of an HVDC power converter is converted into frequencies on the DC side with frequency shifts based on multiples and complements of the fundamental frequency of the AC power system. In a similar fashion, oscillations on the DC side are converted to new frequencies on the AC side. This paper combines many of the ideas covered in the literature into a single document on frequency conversions through an HVDC power converter. It reports on a series of investigations which were carried out to identify dominant frequencies involved in the conversion process and summarizes the conversions involved. It also introduces a methodology which can be used to quantify most aspects of the conversion process.
