Coercivity mechanism of Zn-bonded isotropic Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/N/sub x/ permanent magnets prepared by HDDR

The temperature dependence of the coercivity field of Zn-bonded isotropic Sm-Fe-N permanent magnets produced by HDDR has been measured in the temperature range from 4.2 to about 600 K and been analyzed within the framework of micromagnetic model. The coercivity of the Zn-bonded magnets increases with the Zn content. The micromagnetic analysis suggests that the magnetization reversal process in Zn-bonded HDDR Sm-Fe-N magnets is determined by the nucleation of reversed domains. The way that Zn influences the coercivity of those magnets depends strongly on the microstructure of Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/N/sub x/ particles.
