The computation of skin and proximity effects on the impedance matrix of transmission networks

The paper deals with the computation of the impedance matrix of transmission networks with translational or rotational symmetries. The validity of the concept of a source term derived from the dc distribution, which is an underlying assumption in most current analyses, is examined. It is shown that this approach is valid only for quasistatic magnetic fields. On the other hand, the approach based on the use of the transmission line equations is valid under much more general conditions, namely those of Kuzentsov and Stratonovich (1964). The computation of the impedance matrix through a new direct approach based on the source term concept using the volume integral equation of Manneback (1922) is presented. Numerical results are included.
