Economic Dispatch using Particle Swarm Optimization for combined cycle generators

In this paper the Economic Dispatch (ED) problem is solved using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. This technique is discussed in details along with a case study. An enhanced approach to overcome trapping in local minimum is also explained. As it is known combined cycle generators cost curve are non-continues, one of the best ways to solve an ED for a non-continues cost curve is using PSO. For a first step a system with ten generators will be solved then one of the generators will be replaced with a Co-gen.
