An efficient group addressing scheme for DQDB

Group addressing distributed queue dual bus (GA DQDB) is a new scheme for improving throughput of services on existing DQDB network. The GA DQDB is an extension and generalization of the basic distributed queue protocol defined in the IEEE 802.6 DQDB MAN standard and supports slot reuse. The grouping principle allows for dividing the nodes in network into multiple groups, each with distinct group-code number (or address). In contrast to DQDB with destination release or erasure nodes scheme that have to buffer a full node-address in the interface between media and the corresponding nodes for slot release, the GA DQDB protocol buffers only partial node-address. The grouping concept allows for efficient use of post-destination slot. Hence, the system capacity and the throughput of the GA DQDB are higher than those of a DQDB with destination release or erasure nodes scheme.
