ID LOGIC SW-the key to an intelligent short-wave receiver

The authors begin by discussing some of the positive and negative aspects of shortwave broadcasting. The listener interface with any broadcasting system is through the receiver. The availability of fully synthesised receivers with alpha-numeric keypads and LCD displays has made it easier to select any particular frequency, but this is not the complete solution to the problem of designing and building user friendly short-wave radios. In many cases, a listener also needs to know where in the spectrum he or she should start to search for a particular broadcaster. To help listeners with the task of quickly finding any particular short-wave broadcasting station, a system which uses an in-receiver database has been designed and developed. The concept is similar to the ID LOGIC system already available on some f.m.(vhf) and a.m. (medium wave) radio receivers in the USA. The authors describe various features of the receiver, and the means by which the database is updated over the air. They go on to discuss system testing, simulation and the implementation plan.<
