The effect of legacy interference on MUOS uplink performance

This paper presents the results of simulations used to determine the impact of legacy interference on MUOS uplink performance. The impact on the required Eb/No, capacity, and resistance to external interference is quantified in terms of the degradation in performance from the case of no legacy interference. We compute the degradation for two different satellite loading scenarios and two different front end attenuator settings. We show that the degradation at high levels of legacy interference can be significantly reduced by increasing the front end attenuation at the cost of a small degradation in performance at low interference levels.
