The transient field radiated from a dipole antenna to excitation by a realistically modelled pulse generation

The transient response of a system comprising a realistically modeled pulse generator terminated in a dipole antenna is investigated. The transient current distribution on and the electric field radiated from the dipole antenna are studied. In the basic system a pulse is developed by discharging an initially charged lossless transmission line through a dipole antenna. The multiple pulse behavior of the response is due to the interactions of the antenna with the pulse generator. These interactions may be described in terms of reflections at the input terminals and the ends of the antenna. Results on the transient radiated field from the dipole antenna are computed for an assumed value of attenuation related to the radiation. As expected, the broadside (/spl theta/ = 90/spl deg/) radiation is the strongest.<
