Edge element-scattering amplitude solution to electromagnetic leakage into shielding enclosures

A numerical technique, of interest to EMI/C (electromagnetic interference and compatibility) engineers, is presented for modeling electromagnetic leakage into arbitrary structures. The technique combines the finite element method (FEM) with the asymptotic form of the scattered field. Specifically, the edge-based FEM is used to formulate the fields inside a truncating boundary, while the scattered field in the external domain is described by an outward traveling spherical or cylindrical wave with unknown amplitude. Numerical examples that show the validity and efficiency of the method are presented.<
