A CNN model of oscillation and chaos in ant colonies: a case study

In this case study, we show a CNN model that generates synchronized oscillating pattern of activity as a result of an array of chaotic dynamic elements placed in a regular two-dimensional grid. The elementary dynamical systems are interacting within a local neighborhood. The activity pattern of ant colonies is the prototype to build up the model. Some constraints and artifacts have been analyzed. It turned out that calculations with 16-b fixed point accuracy may cause spurious oscillations that disappear when using a 32-b floating point analysis.<
