Approximate form of multiplication function for avalanche photodiode including 'dead space'

An approximate analytic method that permits explicit calculation of the multiplication function M(x), or the number of electrons flowing in the external circuit caused by one electron-hole pair injected at point x in an avalanche photodiode (APD), is presented. The method shown has the advantage over previous methods of requiring much less computing power for implementation. Good agreement with previous calculations is also shown.<
