Numerical Study of a Simply Constructed Magnetically Insulated Transmission Line Oscillator

In this paper, a simply constructed magnetically insulated transmission line oscillator (MILO) is proposed and studied by simulation. The proposed C-band MILO has no choke vane and impedance discontinuity at the launch point. There are only five vanes and four cavities in it. For an electron beam of 500 kV and 20 GW, by changing from one vane to two vanes having tapered radii in the extraction region and adjusting the axial width of the first vane, the output efficiency can reach 10.5% at an output power of 2.1 GW at 3.72 GHz.
