Preparation of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Superconducting Thick Films on Polycrystal Substrates by Melting Method

We prepared highly textured Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O thick films on polycrystalline MgO and Al
2
O
3
substrates by the melting method, and investigated their superconducting properties. The thick films on MgO substrates were strongly oriented along the c-axis of a Bi
2
Sr
2
CaCu
2
O
x
phase perpendicular to the substrate, and exhibited superconductivity with a T
czero
of 19 K and a critical current density of 160 A/cm
²
at 50 K. Highly textured Bi
2
Sr
2
CaCu
2
O
X
superconducting thick films were grown on Al
2
O
3
substrates by partial substitution of Pb for Bi.
