Structure and Characteristics of Wire Inductor

Flexible amorphous metal fibers were woven with copper wire to form inductor, which were smaller and had a higher inductance than conventional toroidal magnetic cores. The amorphous wire, commercially available, was 107 μm in diameter, with a zero-magnetostriction composition; the copper wire had a 140 μm diameter. One such element had an inductance of 3 μH/mm

. The inductance frequency characteristic was flat, and by changing the construction of the element, the frequency at which the Q-factor is maximum may be varied.
