A novel RF-insensitive EED utilizing a balanced reactive bridge

The description and characterization of an electroexplosive device (EED) is presented. The structure is designed, using hybrid microelectronic fabrication techniques, to be inherently immune to spurious radio frequency (RF) signals injected directly or radiatively coupled in the lead wires of an EED. The structure also rejects low-frequency components of a coupled signal caused by rectification. The discussion of the device includes fundamental mechanisms of operation, fabrication techniques, and frequency response. The device was subjected to a directly injected RF signal; preliminary measurements show a reduction of better than 46 dB in the frequency range of 4-35 MHz. A discrete component version of the structure exhibits 20 dB of attenuation when incorporated in a launch vehicle and tested in a radiated environment at 225 MHz.<
