Surge Protection for AC Motors-When Are Protective Devices Required?

AC motors require surge protection. However, rotating machinery arresters and capacitors are not required on the terminals of all ac motors. Often the distribution system parameters provide inherent surge protection. A simplified method is provided for determining when additional surge protection equipment is required at motor terminals.
