An independent, low cost and open source solution for the realisation of wireless links over huge multikilometric distance

The paper describes the results obtained from a research activity aimed to realise very-low-cost wireless transmitters for the realisation of high capacity point-to-point radio-links over huge distances. The transmitters were obtained from recycled PC hardware components and lowcost radio boards for IEEE 802.11a and IEEE 802.11h applications. The manufactured hardware was used to implement a topology network made of links ranging from 100 to 300 kms. Performance analyses were run for about six months, showing extraordinary stability and reliability and excellent data transport performance..
