Compact Planar Microstrip Antenna Element for Wide-Scan Angle Active Phased Arrays

A new compact planar microstrip antenna element is reported for active phased array applications. The element has been designed in S-band frequency with a wide beamwidth better than 120 degrees. The antenna element gives a VSWR of 1:2 over a bandwidth of 11% in S-band. The element is fabricated on a low cost glass epoxy (FR4) substrate for cost effectiveness.
