Estimation of refractive index distribution inside transparent materials by use of four-wave mixing process

By focusing a femtosecond laser pulse and measuring the resultant four-wave mixing (FWM) signal, we successfully estimate refractive index distribution inside a transparent sample based on the analytical expression for FWM intensity and refractive index.
