Residential air conditioner cycling-a case study

The status of Southern California Edison's Residential Air Conditioner Cycling Program at year-end 1985 is described. Program analyses and results are divided into four general areas: customer acceptance, load impacts, equipment reliability, and cost effectiveness. The great majority of customers involved with this program display a high level of satisfaction and have chosen to continue participation from year to year. Demand impacts indicate the program provides 1.95 kW of load reduction per customer at the generation level with minimal consumption effects. Cycling equipment has been very reliable during the past three years (1983-5).<
