Surgical Microwave Antenna for Endoscopic Procedures

An invasive 2.45 GHz antenna for surgical applications has been developed. Its efficiency for controlled heating to depths between 3 and 6 nun has been demonstrated in phantom material and animal experimental investigations. The primary therapeutic goal is the palliative treatment of infiltrating urinary bladder carcinoma. With further development we expect the method to be useful also in the treatment of superficial bladder tumors, as an inexpensive alternative to the Nd-YAG laser.
