Terminal Based Solution For Service Level Monitoring in Wireless Networks

Monitoring methods relating to the service levels provided to subscribers of second and third generation mobile networks have traditionally focused on a mixture of simulation and "drive testing". This approach, while it has served its purpose, has proved inefficient and arguably inadequate. The system outlined in this paper proposes placing a small monitoring application on the subscriber's terminal in order to enable regular sampling of call parameters during all voice calls. On call termination, the user is also prompted for a "call score" which is based on the mean opinion score (MOS) rating. This information is then automatically transferred to a network database in order to allow the network operator to review and analyze customers experience in specific cells or for specific subscribers or groups of subscribers
