Coordinated Control of Power System Stabilizers and HVDC Damping Controller using Decentralized r-synthesis

This paper presents a decentralized mu-synthesis approach for the coordinated control of power system stabilizers and additive HVDC damping controllers. Conventional mu-synthesis is used for initialization of a decentralized controller, then the system model is reduced to a bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) and solved using the Homotopy method. Simulation results show that the control law designed so stabilizes a 4-machine system after a single-phase fault. The oscillations of the system with this control attenuate more quickly and the oscillation magnitudes are smaller than systems equipped with PSS designed by eigenvalue analysis.
