Distribution of current density in ACSR conductors

The distribution of the current density in steel-cored conductors is nonuniform, due to the transformer effect. This effect is most pronounced in conductors with an odd number of layers of nonferrous wires, and depends on the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic core and the geometry of the conductor. The paper examines the redistribution of current within a 54/19 (Grackle) ACSR conductor, and illustrates how the current density and its phase angle vary between layers and across individual wires.<
