The three-year engineering curriculum: A difficult balance

The authors outline the new engineering curricula designed at the Telecommunication Technical School of Madrid, and present some interesting aspects that must be especially dealt with when designing curricula for "short cycle" engineers (Technical Engineers). The inclusion of Programming and Analog and Digital Electronics courses in the first year provides a greater technological content compared with the generalistic character that was usually offered in the first year of the Technical Engineering curricula. Including more technological subjects in the first academic year has improved their organization, avoiding gaps or repetitions of subject materials in different courses.<
